Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Robert began to play guitar at 13 years old and at age 17 enrolled in the music performance program at California State University, Northridge, studying classical guitar under the direction of Professor Ron Purcell. He became highly respected at the university among his professors and colleagues for his impeccable technique and well thought out interpretations of the classical guitar repertoire. Bach’s “Chaconne” and Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” were just a few of the virtuoso pieces that Robert mastered. He won the prestigious Segovia Scholarship Award three consecutive years and was also one of the few students to get selected to perform for Guitar Virtuoso Julian bream. in 1994 Robert received a Master’s Degree in Classical Guitar Performance.
